Introduction (short)
Smothered Beef Chops with Potatoes in Gravy is a hearty, home-style dish full of comforting flavors. Tender beef chops are slow-cooked with golden potatoes and a rich, savory gravy that brings everything together. Perfect for a cozy family dinner or a Sunday meal.
Ingredients
6 beef chops (bone-in or boneless)
4–5 medium potatoes, sliced into thick rounds
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons olive oil or butter
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups beef broth (or water with bouillon)
1 cup milk or heavy cream
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (optional, for deeper flavor)
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
Season beef chops generously with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
In a large skillet, heat olive oil or butter over medium heat and sear the beef chops on both sides until golden brown (about 3–4 minutes per side). Remove and set aside.
In the same skillet, add sliced onions and cook until soft and lightly browned. Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir well to make a roux.
Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking until smooth. Add milk or cream and Worcestershire sauce, stirring until the gravy thickens slightly.
Arrange potato slices in a greased baking dish. Place the seared beef chops on top of the potatoes.
Pour the onion gravy evenly over the beef and potatoes, covering them completely.
Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour, or until the beef is tender and the potatoes are soft. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes to brown the top if desired.
