Salisbury Steak With Onion Gravy

Instructions

  1. Make the patties
In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, Worcestershire, ketchup, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
    Form into 4–6 oval patties.
  2. Brown the steaks
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Cook patties 3–4 minutes per side until browned (they don’t need to be fully cooked yet).
    Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the onions
In the same skillet, melt butter.
Add sliced onions and cook 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until soft and golden.
  4. Make the gravy
Sprinkle flour over onions and stir for 1 minute.
Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce.
    Simmer until thickened.
  5. Finish cooking
Return patties to the skillet, spoon gravy over them, cover, and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through.

 Serve With

  • Mashed potatoes (classic)
  • Egg noodles or rice
  • Green beans or peas on the side

 Tips

  • Want extra flavor? Add mushrooms with the onions.
  • For smoother gravy, use a whisk and add broth gradually.
  • Leftovers reheat great the next day.
